Joe Biden and Team Heres How To Get In Touch with the Jobs Reality
Joe Biden and Team Heres How To Get In Touch with the Jobs Reality Yesterday I commented on Joe Bidens advice for job seekers: hang in there, stop smoking and cut out the junk food. That is good advice, but I think its too out of touch with what todays reality for job seekers is. You, Biden Co, seem out of touch with whats going on out there. Its been said people in the federal government (yes, the ones weve elected, and the ones we are paying for through our taxes (including their pension (which well never have) and lifetime health insurance (which we probably wont have)) have said that job seekers are lazy. Job seekers are gaming the system, living off of unemployment (have you seen how pidley unemployment checks are? Not enough to sustain a household for most people). Unfortunately you are caught up in the hype about the unemployment rate going up (sad! hide!) or going down (yippee! Celebrate!). I dont believe in those numbers. They are fraudelent (at the very least, they dont tell the whole story). You also get caught up in the reports that say companies are going to hire more this year. More than what? More than last year? That was bottom-of-the-barrel stats anything is going to be better than last year! Those reports are speculations based on surveys they are not necessarily going to happen. Anything can change the strategic direction of a company and cause them to not hire. Unfortunately you have this far-fetched idea that it the governments right, and role, to provide or create jobs. The stimulus didnt work. The jobs created for the census were fake, and are now gone. How has that helped? It was a bandaid, it was not sustainable, and now its over. Ill tell you how to get in touch with reality. Ive been doing this for a few years and its been quite an exercise. Go to job search clubs where professionals and executives meet. Go undercover, so you arent the celebrity there that steals the show. What you want to do is ask questions, and then listen. There are some very, very smart people there. There might even be some 99ers (you know, the ones you think are lazily sitting on the couch, smoking and twinkieing and cashing those unemployment checks?). Find out WHY they are unemployed. Find out WHY they havent been able to get jobs. Ask them what they think about the economy (they have a very realistic perspective). Ask them what they think would solve some of these economic problems (the answers will be less selfish than you might think). Ask and then LISTEN. Just listen. Dont make promises, dont give advice (because you arent really in a position of giving advice to them). LISTEN, and then think about it, and internalize the problem, and then try and come up with real policy that might help our country, and the world, during these rough economic times. Stop blaming past administrations, stop whining about who controls the House or the Senate, and how hard it is to work together. Stop coming up with overreaching federal policy that is more of an expensive bandaid than a sustainable solution. The reality you see, from reports and percentages and numbers and speculation, is far from the reality that we are living in. I challenge you to spend a few days on the road, attending these meetings, talking with these people, and getting a real perspective on whats happening and what could happen to fix it. Best Resume Writing Services of 2020 Federal Government
Best Resume Writing Services of 2020 Federal GovernmentThis year, Federal agencies are expected to spend more on marketing in the private sector and using their expertise, which is why many organizations have begun to partner with professional resume writing services. This is an industry that require an understanding of the industry, and an ability to clearly communicate the purpose of the resume. The Federal Government requires a resume that is highly targeted and will be used by a professional, while the private sector is expected to use resumes written by writing services that specialize in the Federal Government. The US Government has a strict set of regulations regarding job applications and resumes, including formatting, grammar, and a verifiable record of previous employment. A professional writing service knows these rules and can help resume writers correctly format a resume or write a format for a resume that will get noticed. Many companies in the private sector also hire re sume writers who have experience in Federal Government resume writing. As long as the writer is also prepared to make a good impression on the resume writer, there is no reason to worry about how to properly format a resume. The greatest advantage in using a Federal agency's resume writing service is the knowledge they gain in the industry, and the abilities they have developed over the years to write resumes that will be put together by these government workers. In addition to the Federal Government having professionals who are skilled in Federal Government resume writing services, writing services that specialize in hiring resume writers for the government are also expected to be knowledgeable in the private sector. The government understands that private sectors are a long way from being able to provide custom designs, and other components needed to properly format a resume, so it is easy to understand that a good resume can be customized according to the needs of the private sect or. The government understands that hiring a quality resume writing service is vital to keeping their resumes in demand, and there is no reason to worry about this when hiring for jobs.Another key difference between a Federal government resume and private sector resume is the fact that the government will be using these services for at least two years, while a private sector worker may only be using these services for a year or less. Resume writing services are trained to customize resumes and make them stand out from the rest, but will also be aware of the fact that many resume services may only be providing a resume for one year, meaning they only have work for a year, after which time they are expected to discontinue all work. A government resume will be used for two years, as well as be republished throughout the entire working world, meaning that the results will be put to the test two years down the road. When hiring the best resume writing services, the focus should be on the candidate and their qualifications for the position. The private sector will try to be accommodating to candidates who have been laid off, recently fired, or even fired from their current job due to performance. The government does not mind the public and does not shy away from hiring candidates who have had bad experiences in the past.In addition to training and education, a resume will also need to be submitted to the Federal Personnel Office, the local employer's association, and the Chamber of Commerce. The Federal Government is a very large agency, so you should be able to find a writing service that is fully capable of filling out a federal resume and passing it off to an employer within a day or two. The budget to hire such a service is also minimal, and these kinds of businesses are typically experienced in this process. What is important to remember when choosing the best resume writing services to meet your needs is to ensure that you are getting the work that is needed. Wr ite a resume, and prepare it for two separate purposes, the first being to send in to the Federal Government's Professional Services Bureau, and the second being to a reputable private sector employment agency. Only then should you begin researching a company for a resume.

Try to give hugs to more people at work
Try to give hugs to more people at work The house manager comes in my front door at 8am. I tell her, The exterminator is in the kitchen but I forgot to get the cats and bunny out of the house, and the cleaning woman is in the dining room, but she cannot clean while the exterminator is here, and I forgot to send the violin to school for first-grade show-and-tell day. The house manager watches me run upstairs to change and yell behind myself that I have a big meeting at work and I cant reschedule the exterminator because my son already thinks we have too many ants in the kitchen and I dont want him to think we live in a nut house where we cant even deal with an ant problem. Then I yell downstairs: Does anyone know where my black top is? The house manager comes upstairs. She says, First of all, you have twenty black tops and second of all you sound like youre losing your mind. I look at her. She says: You need a drink. A drink? Are you kidding? I have to go to work. Its 8am. You need to take the edge off yourself. You sound like a nut. I decide that this is an interesting idea. But, I say, We dont have a drink here. I mean. What would I drink? She points out that I still have the wine my editor at Yahoo sent when he fired me. I think about how Alex Morris wrote in New York Magazine that women who are in control of their lives drink because drinking is more fun: I want fun. I want control. So I say, Okay. Fine. Ill try it. But it turns out that we dont even have a corkscrew. Fortunately, the exterminator has one on his key chain. The house manager pours cups for me, the cleaning woman, the exterminator and herself. We drink in the kitchen. I have two sips, and I actually feel it in my head. My house manager says this is lucky. It would take every other adult in the world more than two sips. I take a couple more and I think alcohol is magic. I think, why dont more people drink during the day? I get nervous about driving, so I say goodbye. I make phone calls on the way to work and I am calm, and collected, and a little bit more fun than normal. I worry that maybe Ill start drinking every morning. I get to work, and I am glowing. I walk into my office and the guy Im meeting with is there, and I give him a huge smile and a huge hug. The kind you give someone on the fifth date, when you think you might marry him. The thing is, before I realized what I am doing, the guy is hugging back. And thats why I never drink in the morning. Because only four sips leads to hugging insanity. But Ive met with that guy a bunch more times, and he has hugged me each time. Not like, lets-do-something-inappropriate-later hug. But just sort of a nice, I-like-doing-business-with-you hug. And Ive been thinking about what this means at work, and then I read that Obama is hugging. Men. In the White House. Obama has made hugging co-workers cool by using the combination of a handshake and a one-armed embrace, which Time magazine has illustrated nicely for the uninitiated. (The genesis of this hug might be the hip-hop hug, which black men have been doing casually for years. But, according to Wikipedia, white men have been hesitant to embellish beyond a handshake.) After my drunken hug, I became aware that men are actually hugging a lot in the workplace so much that people are studying this at the university level. Really. (These studies remind me of cancer research. We had decades of research about how men get cancer before there was anything about breast cancer. The same is true with hugs. All the hug research is about men. Which is amazing, because there are even workplace etiquette videos, and you gotta believe that the videos for the woman-to-woman hug would be great: Finally! Soft porn that is safe for work!) The research shows that there are a lot of benefits to workplace hugging. First, a hug from someone you are friendly with can release the feel-good brain chemical, dopamine, which improves your mental and physical health. Also, if you hug people you are less likely to touch yourself. Not touch yourself like youre probably thinking. Because presumably, you can control that at work. But touch yourself like, nervous touching your hands, your hair, biting your nails. These are all weird quirks for the workplace that make you look anxious at best, and a liar at worst. Huggers also benefit their workplace by making the atmosphere more casual and relaxed. The Society of Human Resources says that younger workers frequently hug each other probably because they are less uptight about outdated sexual-harassment hoop-la emanating from older workers. So if you feel like hugging someone, go for it. And Im not saying that you should drink in the morning, but I am saying that drinking made me try something I wouldnt have normally done, and it turned out to be a good thing. And I gave my house manager a hug for suggesting it.

Resume Writing Service
Resume Writing ServiceAs a small business owner who is also looking for a resume writing service, you may feel overwhelmed. How do you decide which service will do the best job of getting your resume noticed? What does one look for in a professional resume writer to make sure you get the right person? How do you even find them?In Toronto, there are many reputable service providers for this very reason. If you're a business owner and are looking for a service to help you with your resume writing, there are many options available. One of the best ways to narrow down your choices is to simply use the Internet. There are many websites that have detailed information about the different types of service providers. What's more, if you're looking for someone to help you write your first resume, you can find out which writing service is available by searching the Internet for this term. If you want to be certain that the service you are looking for has been certified and is a member of the Ame rican Staffing Association, it will be listed there as well. While these certifications are not mandatory, they are the best way to ensure that you get the most professional results from your writing service. When you find a writing service in Toronto, it's important to find out whether or not the writers there are skilled and experienced. If the writer is fresh out of college, it's quite possible that he or she won't be able to adequately explain the benefits of your position in the field you're looking to secure. It's also important to ask the service provider about their experience, as well. Remember, you're hiring someone to take your resume and turn it into a unique, compelling marketing tool.If the service is relatively new, you should ask about their track record. After all, you want a service that has successfully written hundreds of resumes before. You should also ask about the writers' level of personal service, since you want someone who is willing to work with you and han dle your resume as a personal project. It is also important to consider the reliability of the writing service in the event that something goes wrong. You don't want to hire a service with a poor track record and then find out you're being delayed in receiving your completed product. If the service is experienced, it should have had no problem in this regard. While it's important to consider what each of these items mean, it's equally important to take your time in making the final decision. It's very common for individuals to rush through a decision like this without considering all the options. Once you've gotten all the answers to your questions, make a decision. Either you go with a service that has shown you that they know how to use services and writing to their advantage, or you go with a service that's not good at all.In the end, you have to make sure that you've got the right service on your side. This way, you can make the most of your free time to spend with your family, wo rk on creating your unique career path, and get the recognition you deserve!

Things to do in your first semester as a fresher - Debut
Things to do in your first semester as a fresher - Debut This post was written by an external contributor. Anca Coman has some advice for anyone in their first semester who is looking to explore their university. University isnât just about lectures, sleepless nights and hard work. There are also endless opportunities to have the time of your life! Your first semester as a fresher is the right time to get to know your uni. There are TONS of different activities and events you might want to check out and have the chance to meet new people. From a yoga give-it-a-go to karaoke socials, theres something to suit everyone. However, keep in mind that every university will have different options, so be sure to check out your union website to explore all the options! Try a give-it-a-go Uni comes with the full package, which also includes endless clubs and societies. Whether youâre a fanatic football player, a devoted Harry Potter fan or a photography lover, youâll find the perfect place to develop your passion. The very first step is to check out the give-it-a-go sessions. Most clubs and societies provide a trial where you can go along, see if you like the overall atmosphere and what its members do in a normal meeting. For example, if you want to try the student TV society, youâll get the chance to present, film and edit clips. Typically, give-it-a-goâs are completely free (or low priced) so its worth seeing if something is for you. Take a complete university tour Even though you might spend most of your time in your school, make sure you explore the entire campus. Itâs a great way to discover whatâs beyond your field of study and see what else the university provides. Therell be loads on offer; from common rooms and breakout areas, to the coffee shops and pubs in the union, or the facilities like the careers centre and the libraries. Youll also want to take a look at some other unique things about the campus. Perhaps theres a swimming pool, or a really old building, or a serene garden area. However, we would advise that you grab a map before you take a tour, as most university campuses are huge and you might get lost. Party up! Clubbing and partying doesnât only come in the Freshersâ Week. At uni, theres always something going on. If youâre a club lover, by the end of the first semester youâll probably already know all the best places in town and their student discounts. If you dont, then check out what themed nights your union is offering. Often guest artists may come down and perform/DJ at your university night, so you may have the opportunity to brush shoulders with a celeb! Attend plays and concerts University is all about culture, and one of the best ways to enjoy it is through the theatre plays and concerts. Whether its a performance of student showcases, or local artists who take to the stage reguarly, you should book a ticket and have a nice night out with some fellow students. Plus, you may discover a genre youve never heard of before. Like immersive theatre, or jazz and blues. And who knows, you might actually be inspired enough to consider joining a theatre or music society yourself. So grab a drink and enjoy the live music or the theatre play. Take advantage of the gym Being a student is the perfect time to get fit. University offers all the necessary facilities to help you continue and achieve your fitness goals. If you live in university halls, most institutions give you a free gym membership which includes fitness classes like pilates or circuits. TAKE ADVANTAGE. If not, you can sweat it out by buying a nine-months membership which is perfect for an academic year. You may also be able to use your student discount to buy your gym equipment. Result! Connect with Debut on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn for more careers insights.

Job Searching Stop Those Random Acts of Application (R.A.A.)!
Job Searching Stop Those Random Acts of Application (R.A.A.)! Job Searching? Stop Those Random Acts of Application (R.A.A.)! Job Searching? Stop Those Random Acts of Application (R.A.A.)! Itâs tempting, I know. See a job posting, apply. Rinse, repeat. Then hope that with all of that activity, someone contacts you. Here are some recommendations: Donât just apply when you see something posted or advertised. Copy the opportunity into your CTC Job Tracker and keep hunting for more opportunities. Searching for opportunities and applying for jobs are two different activities. Itâs too easy to make mistakes when you try to multitask. When you go to each job source, refer to your job search goals and identify the best job opportunities for you. To be sure the opportunity is the âbestâ for you, consider these three things: Are you qualified? Do you have most of the skills that the job description asks for? Remember, nobody has all of the skills, so donât worry if you have skill gaps. Your next job will be a great opportunity to learn something new. What do you want? What day-to-day functions do you want to perform going forward? How do you want to spend 8 hours a day? What kind of work do you want to avoid? Does the job meet your personal goals? For example, can you afford to relocate on your own, if needed? Donât apply for something that you would have to decline â" for any reason â" if you get an offer. Take the time to go to each search engineâs âHow Toâ section and learn how to do great advanced job searches. It will save you time and help you find the right jobs for you. Many job-related websites offer personal job agents that can help automate your job search. Tell these agents (not real people) what type of job youre looking for and then the agent will send you an email whenever something opens up in your field. The quality of these so-called agents varies widely, with some sites offering little more than per-category RSS feeds (Really Simple Syndication, an XML-based standard and format used to distribute frequently updated content), while others charge a bit of money and may even claim to have an actual human doing the work for you. Donât Make These Mistakes: Mistake #1: Having a âsquishyâ goal in the first place, so your search results come back with way too many items; most of which are at the wrong level, requiring the wrong skills, located in the wrong geography, and more. Mistake #2: R.A.A. or Random Acts of Application: You send off your résumé because you see the job posting right in front of you. You feel the urgency and canât wait to get your fabulous credentials in their hands because youâre so PERFECT for this job! Will you have the discipline to just put it into your CTC Job Tracker and prepare to apply by doing some research and writing a cover letter? Sit down, study job postings, and write a specific and succinct description of the positions you are looking for â" your job search goal. Then your applications will no longer be random; they will be perfectly targeted!

Practical Job Search Advice
Practical Job Search Advice It can be difficult to find a job yourself. But, in todays changing job market, throwing yourself on the fire and doing everything you can in order to find the right job is in your best interest, especially if you want to land the ideal job. Start by finding out what kind of experience and skills you have. Think about the skills that you have which best translate to finding a position that suits you, examine the knowledge youve gained and the paths youve taken. Dont forget about your life outside of work, what are some of the things that you enjoy doing? Perhaps there is an opportunity there that you have overlooked. Even some activities that may seem commonplace can set you apart from your peers in the eyes of a HR manager. For instance, starting your own sports league may show your commitment to organization and communication. So what are some practical job search advice tips? Leadership Not just the ability to lead but the ability to bring others together to collaborate on a project and get that project done in a timely manner. Managers want to see leadership qualities in new hires, thats why they look for people with past experience managing people. If you have that experience, then all the better for you, but if you dont you should definitely try to acquire some. Initiative Now is the time! Thats right, no more resting on your laurels, instead get yourself out there and start looking under every nook and cranny in order to find that job that you want. Dont be passive in your job search, be proactive and call up HR managers or find out everything you can about your prospective company. Problem Solving Be a problem solver. Are you seeing nothing but shady door-to-door sales jobs? Then look somewhere else or just dont go on those interviews. You know its not going to be what they say it is, so why are you wasting your time? Stop immediately and focus on the finding a solution to your problem. Flexibility Be flexible and wear as many hats as you can. Some people will tell you that its best to focus on one aspect of your career, but if you are multi-talented why not use that to your advantage? If you have multiple skills you should use them to find a job that suits you. Commitment and Motivation Be committed to your job search and stay motivated. Of course you will get down, who doesnt, but that doesnt mean that you have to let those feelings overwhelm you. Your job search may be on going but if you keep a positive attitude and work through the tough times, you will find something that you want. Interpersonal Skills Use that personality. Ask people at social events if they know of anything or ask your friends on Facebook. Dont be afraid to ask about potential jobs. Sure its tough for a lot of people right now but there are still jobs available if you use your personality to find them.
